Tribute to Professor Saleemul Huq

The Weathering Risk team sends our deepest condolences to Strategic Advisory Board member Saleemul Huq’s family and colleagues in Bangladesh and around the world. His legacy on adaptation, climate justice, loss and damage and beyond will carry on through the people he mentored and inspired for generations.

Saleemul Huq was an expert in the field of climate change, environment and development. He worked putting linkages between climate change mitigation, adaptation and sustainable development, from the perspective of developing countries, particularly the least developed countries (LDCs).

He was the Director of the International Centre for Climate Change & Development (ICCCAD) since 2009 and was a member of the Climate Security Expert Network. Dr. Huq was also a Senior Fellow at the International Institute for Environment & Development (IIED), where he was instrumental in building negotiating capacity and supporting the engagement of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in UNFCCC including negotiator training workshops for LDCs, policy briefings and support for the Adaptation Fund Board, as well as research into vulnerability and adaptation to climate change in the least developed countries.

Dr. Huq was a lead author on the third, fourth and fifth assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and shared his expertise through publishing numerous articles in journals .
